The short version. Email support@rootio.site from the address you signed up with, subject Delete my Rootio account. We confirm within 3 business days and erase the account and its contents within 30 days. It cannot be undone, and it does not cancel a Google Play subscription — cancel that in Play first.

1. Which app this is

This page covers Rootio, the bookmark manager published on Google Play under the package name app.rootio.bookmarks, and the account you use to sign in to it. One account covers the app and the service behind it, so deleting it here deletes it everywhere.

2. How to request deletion

You do not need the app installed, and you do not need to reinstall it to ask.

  1. Send an email to support@rootio.site from the email address on the account, with the subject Delete my Rootio account.
  2. Say in the body that you want the account and everything in it deleted. Nothing else is needed — do not send us your password, and we will never ask you for it.
  3. We reply within 3 business days to confirm the request and that the address matches an account. If the message did not come from the account's own address, we will ask you for something that proves the account is yours before going any further.
  4. Once confirmed, the account and its data are erased within 30 days and every signed-in device is signed out. We email you once when it is done.

If you sign in with Google rather than a password, email us from that same Google address — that is what ties the request to the account.

3. Cancel your subscription first

Deleting your Rootio account does not cancel a Google Play subscription, and does not refund one. Play subscriptions are managed by Google, not by us. If you have Rootio Pro, cancel it first in the Play Store — Play Store → your profile picture → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions → Rootio → Cancel subscription — and then ask us to delete the account. Cancel afterwards and you may keep being billed for a subscription attached to an account that no longer exists.

4. What gets deleted

Everything below is removed permanently. This is not a deactivation and not an archive: there is no grace period in which we can bring any of it back.

What Detail
Your account Name, email, password, avatar, and your Google sign-in link if you use one
Your library Every Root, Shelf and Link you own, with their notes, tags and images
Workspaces you alone own The workspace and everything in it — see §5
Trash and archive Anything waiting in trash or archived, deleted outright rather than restored
Timeline and notifications Your activity entries, your assignments, and your notification history
Assistant history Your AI questions, their answers, and your usage counters
Connected accounts Any linked third-party account, and the stored tokens for it
Sessions and devices Sign-in sessions and push device tokens — every device is signed out
Settings and invitations Your preferences, plus workspace invitations you sent that are still open

5. Shared workspaces

A workspace can hold more than one person, so deleting your account cannot simply delete every workspace you touched. The rule is:

  • You are the only owner. The workspace goes with you, along with the Roots, Shelves and Links inside it. Anyone you shared it with loses access.
  • There are other owners or admins. The workspace stays. Ownership passes to the longest-standing remaining owner or admin, and we remove your membership, your personal records and the content you own outright. Work you contributed to that shared workspace — a link on a shared Shelf, an entry on the team's timeline — may remain visible to the people who rely on it, as §10 of the Privacy Policy describes.

If you want contributions of yours reviewed and taken out of a workspace that survives, say so in your email and we will look at it case by case.

6. What we keep, and for how long

A small amount of data outlives the account, for reasons we are required to honour:

What How long, and why
Billing and purchase records As long as tax and accounting law requires. These are financial records rather than profile data, and we cannot delete them on request.
Server logs A short operational window measured in days, then discarded on their own schedule. They are not searchable by account once the account is gone.
Your contributions to a shared workspace that survives Kept for the people still using it — see §5.
The deletion request itself The email thread, so we can show the request was made and honoured. Discarded at the end of our retention period for support correspondence.

Backups are the ordinary exception: a copy of deleted data can sit in an encrypted backup until that backup rotates out, normally within 30 days. It is never restored to live systems and is not used for anything.

7. Before you ask

  • Export anything you want to keep. Any Root exports as clean Markdown from inside the app, at any time, without asking us. After deletion there is nothing left to export.
  • Cancel your Play subscription — see §3.
  • Hand over any workspace you want to survive. Promote another member to owner before you go, or the workspaces you solely own go with you.
  • Deleting is not the only option. If you only want the emails or the push notifications to stop, both are switches in Settings and the account stays.
