The short version. Use Rootio for lawful things. Your library is yours and you can export it at any time. We keep the service running as best we can but make no promise it is perfect. Anything you put in a shared workspace, your teammates can see. If you buy Pro, it renews until you cancel.

1. This agreement

These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") are an agreement between you and GYMTROX Technologies ("Rootio", "we", "us") covering your use of the Rootio mobile apps, the website at rootio.site, and the API behind them (together, the "Service").

By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms and to the Privacy Policy, which forms part of them. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Who may use Rootio

You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age of digital consent where you live if that is higher. If you are using Rootio on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms, and "you" means that organisation.

3. Your account

  • Give accurate information when you sign up, and keep it current.
  • You are responsible for what happens under your account. Keep your password and your devices secure, and tell us promptly at support@rootio.site if you think your account has been compromised.
  • Do not share your account credentials. Invite people to your workspace instead.
  • One person, one account. Do not create accounts by automated means.

4. Your content

"Your Content" means everything you put into Rootio: links, titles, notes, tags, images, root and shelf names, replies, and anything else you create or upload.

You own Your Content. These Terms transfer no ownership of it to us. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, transmit, display and process Your Content solely in order to operate and improve the Service for you — including displaying it to the workspaces you share it with, indexing it so the assistant can find it, and generating previews and exports. That licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies retained in backups for a limited period, and for content other members of a shared workspace still rely on.

We do not use Your Content to train AI models, and we do not permit our providers to. See clause 5 of the Privacy Policy.

You are responsible for Your Content and for having the rights to it. You are also responsible for keeping your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose — any Root exports as Markdown from inside the app at any time, and we encourage you to use it.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • break the law, or use the Service to help someone else break it;
  • store or share content that is unlawful, infringing, defamatory, or that depicts the sexual exploitation of children;
  • save links whose purpose is malware distribution, phishing, or fraud, or use Rootio to build or distribute such a collection;
  • harass, threaten or impersonate anyone, in a workspace or through an invitation;
  • send invitations to people who have not asked for them, or use the invitation system for bulk or unsolicited messaging;
  • probe, scan or test the Service's security, circumvent its rate limits or plan limits, or access data belonging to another workspace;
  • scrape the Service, use it through automated clients other than the official apps, or resell access to it;
  • reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to derive source code from the Service, except to the extent the law says you may;
  • use the Service in a way that degrades it for anyone else, including deliberately excessive storage or request volume.

We do not routinely review what you save. We may review, remove or restrict access to content where we reasonably believe these Terms or the law have been broken, or where we are required to.

6. Workspaces and sharing

  • A workspace is a shared space. Everything in it is visible to every member of it, and every member can see the name, email address and picture of the others. Do not put anything in a workspace you would not want its members to see.
  • Sharing a Root shares the real thing. The Root stays where its owner keeps it; the workspace opens the same records, kept current. Unsharing removes the reference and nothing else.
  • Sharing a Shelf moves or copies it. A move is not undoable with a back gesture, and the sheet says so before you confirm it.
  • Roles decide who can do what. Owners and admins can invite, remove members, and restructure Roots shared with the workspace. Members can save, move and delete links.
  • An invitation link is a capability. A workspace's standing join link admits whoever holds it. An emailed invitation code is bound to one address, expires, and is spent on use. Treat the link accordingly.
  • Joining a workspace is always free, whatever plan you are on.

If you use Rootio as part of an organisation's workspace, that organisation may control your access to it and may have its own policies governing what you put there.

7. Plans and limits

Rootio has a free tier and a paid Pro tier. Entitlement is personal: everyone buys their own Pro, and a shared workspace can mix the two.

The free tier applies limits to the number of Roots you create, the Shelves in a Root, the Links on a Shelf, the questions you may ask the assistant each month, the Roots you share out, the size of a workspace you own, and how long deleted items stay recoverable. The current numbers are shown in the app before a limit is reached. Limits apply to what you created, not to what you can see — joining a paying teammate's workspace never puts you behind a paywall.

Limits are only ever applied when creating something. Reading, editing, deleting, unsharing and restoring are never refused on plan grounds, so ending a subscription leaves your existing library intact and accessible.

The Pro assistant allowance is generous but finite, because each question has a real cost. We may change plan limits with notice.

8. Billing

  • Subscriptions purchased inside the iOS or Android app are billed by Apple or Google, under their terms, and are managed in your App Store or Play Store account.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not refund the current period.
  • Refunds for in-app purchases are handled by the store that took the payment, under its refund policy. Nothing here limits any refund right you have under consumer law.
  • Prices may change. We will give notice before a change takes effect for you, and you can cancel before it does.
  • When a subscription ends, your account returns to the free tier. Nothing is deleted; you simply cannot create beyond the free limits until you upgrade again.

9. The AI assistant

The assistant answers questions using your own library and cites the entries it drew on. Like all such systems it can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. Check anything that matters against the link itself.

Do not rely on the assistant for legal, medical, financial or other professional advice. Suggestions it makes — merging duplicates, flagging a dead link — are proposals you confirm, and a merge is undoable from the timeline.

10. Third-party links and services

Rootio stores links to pages we do not control. We do not endorse them, we do not check them, and we are not responsible for their content, their availability or their privacy practices. Sign-in, push delivery and payment are provided by third parties under their own terms.

11. Availability and changes

We aim to keep the Service available and to give notice of planned maintenance, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may add, change or remove features. If we discontinue a feature you depend on, or the Service itself, we will give reasonable notice and a way to export your data.

We may update these Terms. Material changes will be notified in the app or by email before they take effect, and the date at the top of this page will change. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the updated Terms.

12. Our intellectual property

The Service, its software, design, the Rootio name and the Rootio logo are ours and are protected by intellectual property law. These Terms grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the apps as they are intended to be used, and nothing more.

Feedback you send us is welcome and we may act on it freely, without obligation or compensation to you.

13. Suspension and termination

You may stop using Rootio and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these Terms, that we are legally required to act on, or that poses a risk to other users or the Service — normally with notice, and immediately where the breach is serious.

On termination, your right to use the Service ends. Clauses 4 (as to licences already granted), 12, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 survive.

14. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free, that a saved link will remain reachable, or that the assistant's answers will be accurate.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you are a consumer, you have statutory rights that these Terms do not affect.

15. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, lost goodwill, or lost or corrupted data.

Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, and (b) USD 100.

16. Indemnity

If you use Rootio other than as a consumer, you agree to indemnify and hold us harmless against claims, losses and reasonable legal costs arising from Your Content, your use of the Service, or your breach of these Terms or of the law.

17. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Pakistan, and the courts of Pakistan have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute — except that if you are a consumer, you keep the benefit of any mandatory protections and any right to bring proceedings in the courts of your own country.

Please write to support@rootio.site before starting a formal dispute. Most things are faster to fix than to litigate.

18. General

  • Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about the Service.
  • Severability. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
  • No waiver. Not enforcing a right on one occasion does not waive it.
  • Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our consent. We may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
  • Apple. If you obtained the app from the App Store, these Terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide support for the app, and Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms with the right to enforce them against you.
